Gender inequalities are an obstacle to sustainable development, and the changes facing the region are a manifestation of the urgent need to move decisively towards development styles that include gender equality and women's autonomy and guarantee the rights of all people without exception. In the current regional context, there is an urgent need to accelerate the commitments undertaken in the framework of the Regional Gender Agenda and Agenda 2030 in order to meet the multiple challenges posed by an economic scenario that is constantly changing due to the economic, technological, demographic and climate changes that are taking place.
The first part of this document assesses the progress made in achieving greater levels of gender equality and women's autonomy. Countries have made significant progress in building and prioritizing institutional structures for the design and coordination of gender equality policies. The second part of the document analyses the processes of economic and financial globalization, the digital revolution, the care economy and climate change, and their main effects on women's lives in a changing economic context.
